10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

$Free lighthouse climbs for Kenosha County Residents; $5 for non- Kenosha County residents; all children are free (children must be at least 8 years of age to climb the lighthouse)

Celebrate National Lighthouse Day at the Southport Lighthouse Museum. After years of extensive remodeling and renovation, the 1867 Light Station Keeper's House opened in May, 2010 as a maritime museum featuring artifacts, maps and information about Kenosha's important 19th century harbor. The Keeper's House is adjacent to the 1866 Southport Lighthouse, a climb of 72 steps to the top of which provides a panoramic view of the Lake Michigan Shoreline and the City of Kenosha.

August 6 is therefore an appropriate date for the Kenosha History Center to invite the public to participate in a family day of activities and old fashioned fun; games for the children, music, a celebrity pie eating contest, ice cream sundaes and root beer floats for purchase, and other activities in keeping with late 19th and early 20th centuries. We encourage visitors to bring a picnic lunch, lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the grounds of the light station. There will also be 15-20 picnic tables available and lots of room for chairs and blankets near the entertainment stage. After your lunch, buy an ice cream sundae or root beer float from our concession stand for dessert.

Children's games will take place from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. Kids will get to play with historic toys and compete in a sack race and hoop race under the Johnson Bank tent.

The Entertainment Schedule is as follows:

11:00 a.m. TBA
12:00 p.m. Celebrity Pie Eating contest
